Assignments: Exams
A midterm and a final . . .
The mid-term will be held February 9-10. The final exam will happen on March 17 (Tuesday from 7:15am-9:45–see final exam study guide for details).
On the mid-term exam, you will take the test individually on Monday February 9 and re-take the test Tuesday in a small group, where you will be able to discuss your answers before turning in one exam for the group (still closed book, though). We’ll consider options for doing the same on the final (which would require starting early and going from 7:15 am to 9:45 am–we have to vacate before the next class comes in for a 10 o’clock final).
The individual portion of the midterm exam will be worth 75% of your exam grade, and the group portion 25%. If you prefer, you can take the test again individually (in the Testing Center) on the second day and average your grades, or choose not to take it a second time and settle for whatever grade you ended up with on the first day. The second day score will only be used if it improves your overall score (class averages usually improve a half to whole letter grade). The point of this exercise is to, hopefully, turn the test into a learning exercise as well as an evaluation tool. The final will not be comprehensive, and will cover only material after the first exam. Videos we watch are fair game on exams.
We will use the week 5 small groups to review material, and discuss the kinds of questions (e.g., multiple choice, matching, short answer, essay) you can expect on the midterm. For the final, some of week 10 will be review and preparation.
Each exam is worth 100 points, 2 x 100, 200 points total.
