On campus assignments: Group project work

We will try to commit one day per week to work on the  term projects, which will be related to food (Haven from Hunger). Haven from Hunger is a project created by the Anth/Soc Department in 2003. We have over the years relied on students to help us keep it going, and there are multiple options we can discuss that you can pursue. These are basically community development projects.

You will receive five points for actively participating on these group days in discussing, planning, and carrying out these projects. It behooves you to be productive, because you will each be writing up your work, observations and learning, as there is a paper due at the end of the term.

I have contacted the Department of Human Services’ SSP Division in Union County, inquiring as to whether they could use some assistance in evaluating a new initiative—providing SNAP (‘Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program’) to Pacific Islanders. We will make a determination based on their response—which is forthcoming.

50 points possible (10 pts x 5 weeks–6,7,8,9,10)
