Assignments online: Weekly 'share'
This discussion forum is in addition to the regular forum where we will discuss readings and other source material. Think of it as sort of a pressure release valve for the course. But also as something that I believe it’s good to get in the habit of doing–sharpening our powers of observation, in this case relating to the natural environment.
So most anything goes here, as long as it is clear you’ve put some effort into it and stayed faithful to the course’s subject matter. I would much prefer that your observations have to do with something you’ve noticed–it could be something on a morning commute in the car, bus, train, bicycle, on foot, etc. It could be a squirrel crossing the road on a power line. Maybe the pretty extensive insect and plant life that you might observe, if you’re lucky enough to have a yard/garden at your disposal, or one nearby. It could be a hike in the woods that you did over the weekend. Or some aspect of your carbon footprint you hadn’t previously considered.
The point is to pay more attention to your natural surroundings, make observations, tie them back to concepts in the course if you can, but perhaps spend a little more time looking outward, a little less time looking at those pocket-size propaganda delivery devices most of us carry around. Unless, of course, you’re considering the carbon footprint of planned or perceived obsolescence as they relate to consumer goods.
So the weekly share is worth up to five points for the week, I would love to see people interacting and carrying on discussion in there, because that way I know that some sharing is actually taking place, being received, and reciprocated.
You will find the weekly share discussion links in the Canvas modules, organized by the week.
50 points possible, 10 x 5 / week
